While the eastern half of the continent is abnormally warm, guess what the southwestern part is like? Continued, unseasonal cold.
But no problem - even in my old Denver area stomping grounds for a conference and speaking, I'm visiting a sister's house in the nearby mountains. And she has indoor plants with blooms. Yes -
I'm actually showing indoor plants.
And after seeing my post, please visit others on May Dreams Garden Bloggers Bloom Day -
here.

| A Meyer Lemon - can't do this outside in Abq, and definitely not in Z 4b Evergreen CO! |
 |
| Seeing this and absorbing the scent of these blooms reminds me of living in San Diego out of college, over 2 decades ago, where citrus does grow on trees. Where fall turns into spring in January (no real winter), and a casual walk or drive might bring one into the scents of many different citrus trees. Sweet, but not sickeningly so. |

Rosemary! Now, here's a plant we grow many cultivars of in Abq outside with no
protection , big to thin to trailing. Only the coldest winters, such as 2010-2011, have
damaged the tenderer ones, mostly trailing selections. For more than a decade, it has
become as common at gas station mini-marts as junipers; even the HOG use them.
Circle K or Walgreens = acceptance! |

| But this year they are not blooming in the ground back in Abq. I had hope, then it got even colder after New Year's Day - and it was already cold before that. Not so indoors here...I look at that and think about the roast I'll be making when I return, after picking some fresh sprigs from my side patio to season it with! |
Walgreens=acceptance......haaaaaaa! True! And oh so annoying. The one by me is desperate for just a few nice plants. But nope....struggling dwarf nandina. I can't wait to catch up on your posts...in company mode since late dec. Happy GBBD :)
ReplyDeleteHappy GBBD to you and y'all, too! All the Walgreens in NM and AZ are built by the same general contractor, but the landscapes in NM are by the same ls contractor subcontractor...fried Nandina, boreal trees on rock, desert plants as curiousities, and so on...gag.
DeleteNothing wrong with showing a few indoor dwellers! Quite frankly here in San Diego we're having something that's actually feeling like winter, little patches of frost and all. But yah, the rosemary is blooming, though our citrus will wait a few months before working up the next crop...
ReplyDeleteHappy bloomday to ya!
Thanks and same to you, señor! I guess we couldn't all be in Pittsburgh for the milder weather...soon, our weather will tweak back and the rosemary blooms will return (as I munch on a store-bought grapefruit).
