Cactus & Bears - oh my!

Even with a non-soon season up in Abq, a few plants make their case they are worthy of use in area landscapes over all the typical stuff. This from the morning work-out!

Muhlenbergia porteri is the bushy grass, Opuntia valida is the cactus

Whoa! Looks like a black bear track, not a puma, and there was quite a trail of these in the lowest arroyo in the damp gravelly "soil"...I wear a size 9-1/2 shoe, so maybe this is too small for anything but a cub? Not sure. But I made it back without seeing any large omnivores, or getting mauled and eaten, so all is good!

View south, of moisture spilling over the Manzano Mtns - it rained 1"-2" yesterday on the E siude of the Sandia and Manzano Mtns, but nothing on this side where Abq is...ARRGH!

Opuntia camanchica & it's tunas (fruit)

Opuntia valida & it's tunas

Opuntia engelmannii & it's tunas

Opuntia ___ & it's tunas (gotta ask Dave Ferguson the species)
